Aroma tip

Flavour harmony: cardamom and cappuccino

From coffee tradition to coffee trend: the luxurious twist of cardamom

Cardamom has a long-standing connection with coffee in both the Middle East and Scandinavia. In Arabic coffee, often called qahwa, cardamom is frequently brewed together with the coffee and symbolises hospitality.
In Sweden, cardamom appears mainly in fragrant cardamom buns, traditionally enjoyed during fika, the beloved Swedish coffee break. When cardamom is added to a cappuccino, it creates a modern interpretation of these traditions.

Inspiration for application

  • Coatings & glazes: In compounds, coatings or sugar glazes for cakes and filled sweets, cardamom adds depth to the coffee character, with warm and refined spicy notes that deepens the overall sweetness.
  • Desserts & dairy: In custards, pudding and milk-based drinks, the combination of cappuccino and cardamom creates a rich and aromatic profile, where the fresh, light citrus spiciness contrasts beautifully with the creamy base.
